May 2009 sees the release of Derelict’s national debut, Unspoken Words, through Kerosene Media/Year of the Sun Records. “We’re really proud of Unspoken Words and it’s a great feeling to know that there is a label that believes in the music as much as we do,” says vocalist Eric Burnet. “Our goal has always been to combine far-ranging elements of metal and music in general, and we feel that with this album we’ve gotten much better at doing that. We’ll hit you with some brutal death metal, but infused with catchy melodies surrounded by progressive chaos and completely unexpected influences. I think our sound has diverse enough elements to appeal to fans of Gojira, Cryptopsy or even old-school fans of Carcass. There’s something here for every metal fan and that’s something that’s very important to us.”

With the help of two national tours, constant treks through Quebec and Ontario, and support for major acts such as Ion Dissonance (Century Media), Threat Signal (Nuclear Blast), and The Agonist (Century Media), the band has covered most of Canada, and is quickly making itself known as a force to be reckoned with.

Members are Martin Samson(guitar), Vince Laprad(guitar), Stef Jomphe(vocals), Phil M. Latreille(drums) and Benoît Knight(bass).

The group played some concerts before its first one demo in May, 2004 called Insurrection which is composite of six very various titles what return style difficult to qualify. A thing is however sure: it is outright about metal. The group manages to invent a reputation and in it to create a core of faithful as well French-speaking supporters as English-speaking because Insurrection composes songs in its two languages.

Since the first demo, their style evolves and changes in a significant manner; their new compositions are characterized by a bigger complicacy and a new aggressivity. A second album will be written without seeing the light day. In May, 2005, Mathieu Vilandré(drums) leaves the group to join Fuck The Facts.

In summer, 2007, the group decides that the updating of songs is necessary and records 7 songs, of which ‘ Fear Tomorrow ‘ and launches in pursuit of a more sprawling stage.
