MY BOY RASCAL
My Boy Rascal is the ongoing folk-pop project of Colby Ramsay, a Canadian singer-songwriter who spent his formative years in Naramata, a tiny town nestled on the shore of Okanagan Lake in British Columbia. Perhaps his laid-back vibe and smooth vocal stylings can be attributed to growing up near the water, characteristics that have led some to liken him to “a Canadian cross between Jack Johnson and John Mayer.” However, his fingerstyle playing is possibly his most defining characteristic, and in this capacity My Boy Rascal is more reminiscent of Iron & Wine or Damien Rice. Then again if you ask him, he might try to tell you that he sounds like “Uninhibited Animal Magicality,” and leave it at that.

This Saturday Aug. 6th we have a favorite, the last time of the season…the C Denny Band with be treating you to some great music!

The Crooked Brothers at Piebird Bed & Breakfast

With their banjos, mandolins, dobros, scrap metal pieces and other instruments in tow, Winnipeg’s The Crooked Brothers will play Nipissing Village on Friday Aug. 19.

The special “dinner and concert” showcase happens at Piebird Bed & Breakfast (113 Chapman’s Landing Road, Nipissing Village, ON). Dinner seating starts at 6 p.m., with the concert happening at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is $15 (concert only) or $35 (dinner and concert).

The Crooked Brothers’ blend of timeless country classic sounds, back porch blues and stomping scrap yard funk has gained the attention of many folk festival and roots music fans. The band’s three-part harmonies are offset by singer Matt Foster’s trademark charming “growl” – backed by a pumping, folk/roots beat.

Ryan Problems Performs July 30th!

We’ve a treat for you July 30th, Ryan Problems will be making his first appearance at the North Bay Farmers’ Market..
Ryan has been performing solo and with backup musicians since about 2005. He has opened for numerous Canadian touring acts such as Wax Mannequin and B.A. Johnston and also shared the stage and opened for Juno award-winning artists like Alannah Myles, Garret Mason as well as some notable blues groups at The Porquis Blue Festival. Backed up by Michael Favretto on bass and mandolin, Ryan will be treating patrons at the market to a selection of songs from the pop, rock, blues and country genres with their own unique folk-punk style.

You won’t want to miss the entertainment this Saturday July 23rd…
Verdon Vaillancourt is a life-long North Bay & Area musician and craftsman. He has played in numerous bands over the years, from Country to Jazz to Classic Rock, and is currently the percussionist with up and coming North Bay Band, Twysted Roots. In addition to a 40 year passion for drumming, Verdon has embraced finger-style guitar and enjoys classic and contemporary folk music, with an emphasis on Canadian song-writers such as Stan Rogers, Gordon Lightfoot, David Francey, Great Lake Swimmers, and others. Beyond music, Verdon has been active in numerous community groups,youth sports, and adult hockey. When not singing and playing guitar or drums, he can usually be found walking his dogs or lacing up to play a little hockey.

A great time was had by all this past Saturday at the Market…it was warm but not too hot and we had sunshine!!!

The entertainer this week Saturday July 11th is Matt Dent… he has been playing guitar solo and in bands for eleven years. While he has played a handful of shows around North Bay in the last couple of years with his band The Hometown Hecklers, recently Matt has been playing his own solo acoustic shows. His influences include a wide variety of music from 90′s rock to 60′s folk some of which he tries to incorporate in his song writing.

Stop by the Market…where there is always something happening!
